In Spring 2021, for the 8th consecutive year, Equinox Gold’s Mercedes Mine was awarded the ESR (Empresa Socialmente Responsable) Company Distinction Badge by the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy, recognizing the team’s commitments to corporate social responsibility.
In May 2019, for the second year in a row, Equinox Gold’s Aurizona Project was awarded the Award for Excellence in the Mining and Metallurgy Industry by the Brazilian magazine Minérios & Minerals. This is the magazine’s 21st annual Award for Excellence in the Mining and Metallurgy Industry. Previous recipients have included companies such as AngloGold Ashanti, ArcelorMittal, Vale, Imerys and Alcoa.
The 2019 award was in recognition of Aurizona’s “Sustainable Agroecological Production Project”. This program is a partnership with the Maranhão State Agency of Agricultural Research that promotes agricultural production through the cultivation of organic food, providing stable income for participating families and contributing to both social and environmental improvements in communities near Aurizona.
The 2018 award was in recognition of Aurizona’s “Young Environmental Agents Project”. The Young Environmental Agents Project was created in 2015 to strengthen the relationship between Aurizona and local communities through an environmental approach. The main objective is to educate young people by hosting workshops focused on how minerals are used in our daily lives and the social, environmental and economic impacts and opportunities associated with mining.
Equinox Gold is honoured to receive these awarda and proud of the work the Aurizona team is doing in local communities. These projects are just two of the Company’s ongoing community and stakeholder interaction programs. Throughout the year the Aurizona team works with community leaders and Brazilian organizations to implement a wide range of programs focused on infrastructure improvement, education, skills training, agricultural development and social programs.
