Celebrating Earth Day

RDM Mine

This Earth Day, Equinox Gold is proud to highlight a local initiative that reflects our commitment to responsible mining and community well-being. At our RDM mine in northern Minas Gerais, Brazil, we’ve partnered with the Municipality of Riacho dos Machados and COPASA to help support long-term water security for the region. Starting in 2025, water for the municipality’s distribution center will be supplied from the Rodeador Dam—an RDM-built structure—strengthening access to clean water for residents.

The Rodeador Dam was designed not only to support mining operations but also to serve as a reliable reservoir for surrounding communities, where water scarcity is a seasonal challenge.

“We’ve always envisioned this infrastructure as something that could benefit both our operations and the people who live here,” says Rodrigo Dhryell Santos, Environmental Coordinator at RDM. “It’s about sharing resources.”

The Rodeador Dam initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6: “ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation.” Water is one of the world’s most precious resources, and protecting it is a shared responsibility.

Castle Mountain Project

At our Castle Mountain project in California, we’re continuing our commitment to environmental stewardship and local partnerships with two meaningful Earth Week activities.

We’re once again teaming up with Springs Preserve, a Nevada-based organization that manages a botanical garden and science museum in Las Vegas. Following a successful donation of mature cacti and yuccas last year, salvaged from our mine site to help build out their new garden, we’re proud to continue that relationship by donating another dozen mature Joshua trees and yuccas this spring. These native plants will expand Springs Preserve’s educational displays and promote local biodiversity.

We’re also supporting a community conservation effort in partnership with the Friends of Avi Kwa Ame National Monument. Equinox Gold is a sponsor of their upcoming Spring BioBlitz event, where our team will contribute a cactus donation as part of the day’s activities. This event brings together scientists, volunteers, and nature lovers to celebrate and protect one of the region’s most unique desert landscapes.

This Earth Day, we’re proud to take meaningful steps toward a healthier future for our operations, our communities, and the planet.
